Haleakala, it means house of the sun, but
to each person who visits this ancient volcanic crater at sunrise, the meaning is different.
A spiritual renewal, a physical challenge. A travel dream realized. But let’s rewind
a bit to the start of this day, the time is 3:20am. This is Haleakala bike company, home
base for what is about to be an epic adventure. A 10,000 ft. climb to the summit of Haleakala,
followed by a 23-mile downhill bike. Once we depart here it’s about an hour and 15 hour
and 20 minutes to get up to the top and your destination today is considered to be one
of the most unique and rarest ecosystems on this entire planet. You’re gonna see things
that exist nowhere else on earth, only here in the islands. It’s not 5:30am and we just
made it to the top of Haleakala. The sun is just starting to creep over the horizon and
there are about 100 people here all waiting to see the sunrise. It’s now about 7:30am we’re at the staging
area where i’m gonna get fitted for my bike and start out on the 23.2 mile course. After
a picture perfect sunrise and an exhilarating 23 miles, made it back to Haleakala Bike Company.
You’ve gotta try this!
